Marc Choquet

  • PhD in Applied Physics
  • 35 years of experience
  • Business Development Manager

With over 30 years of experience in laser-ultrasonics, Marc Choquet is one of the pioneers who developed and applied the laser-ultrasonic technology to routine industrial use. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics at École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1990 for his studies in applying the photothermal method to amorphous silicon characterization. After several years at NRCC, Marc joined Tecnar in 2000 to start a new company division based on laser-ultrasonic technology. Starting with unique single laser-ultrasonic components, the division grew to make full turnkey systems, such as the Lus Ultimate. In his years at Tecnar, Marc has continued to develop new avenues for laser-ultrasonics, recently working on weld inspection, additive manufacturing monitoring and online material characterization with laser-ultrasonics.

Morgan Hiraiwa

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • Macroscale flaw detection research
  • Laser UT Research Officer

Morgan earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington with a focus on the interaction between laser-ultrasound and structured materials. His discovery of the correlation between wave propagation in porous structures and the ultrasonic amplitude is the key to developing the non-destructive testing techniques Tecnar strives to achieve.

In 2020, Morgan joined the laser UT division at Tecnar to apply his fundamental research to industrial applications. His main role is the development and optical design of laser-ultrasonic instrumentation.

Alexandre Nadeau

  • Master’s degree in Applied Physics
  • 20 years of experience
  • CEO

Alexandre Nadeau earned a Bachelor’s in Physics Engineering from L’École Polytechnique de Montréal, with a minor in Photonics Engineering. During his studies towards his Master’s in Applied Physics at the Université du Québec, Alexandre applied laser-ultrasonics to the inspection of ultra-thin metallic coatings. He has published many articles, presented at  many conferences and invented two patents owned and operated  by Tecnar. Now heading the family company, Alexandre is still deeply involved in innovation  and his laser-ultrasound expertise plays a vital role in the evolution of Tecnar products.
